I was suprised when getting on the scale to see that I dropped 8 lbs on the ride. I obviously didn't drink enough or fuel enough. With muscle being 73% water your efficiency drops dramatically with dehydration. Stopping at Ralph's/Starbucks was a good call. Thanks for the honorable mention in the blog. All I know is that when I start to think I'm fast, or start to feel good about my fitness, I go out and ride with the likes of George Vargas, Josh Talley, Collin Stokes or Dave Elsberry and they kick my butt all day long. I have a long way to go before I can hang with those guys...or maybe I just need to be drinking the same juice. Thanks for the report. Keep up the good work with the Tri training. It sounds like you're getting stronger and faster!Keith Jensennoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8267429057040392917.post-54028768662189362672011-04-17T19:21:49.179-07:002011-04-17T19:21:49.179-07:00I lived in Hemet twice as a kid, and yes, it gets ...I lived in Hemet twice as a kid, and yes, it gets hot, very hot, and the season changes from winter to summer like on a switch.

I sweat through 3 24oz bottles and DNF-ed 1,500 yards from the top of Mt Hamilton (12-16% grade, and on Stage #4 on the Amgen tour this year) on the Canyon Classic in '09. I went through 2 donated bottles of water while napping in some shade by the side of the road, and woke up parched. HR was racing. Breathing hard. Flagged down a motorcycle to summoned SAG. After 3 hrs and 7 quarts of water I got home and had a BP of 75/45 and pulse still over 115.

Finished with ease the next year in cool rainy conditions, shivering at rest stops. The organizers put a case of bottled water at the base of the climb. I loaded up, but didn't need it in the cool rainy wx. You never know what you'll get on an event, do you?

Thanks for a great report. Hope to be in shape for the Davis Double if I can keep my shoulder from complaining too much. Again, congratulations. Well done!Grey Beardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02238917041257429804noreply@blogger.com
